And put your trust
Upon the Exalted in Might,
the Most Merciful.
Surah ash-Shu'ara 26:217
By placing our complete trust in the Creator of the universe and the Owner and King of everything that exists, we are submitting our weak and fragile selves to One who is Mighty and Powerful. This complete reliance puts us in servitude to our Lord. It reminds us that we are all His slaves and that ultimately it is His will that will be done.
This of course does not mean that we become complacent or lazy or that we do nothing. Putting our trust in Allah entails that we have done everything in our power to achieve something and after that we leave it in Allah's Hands, especially in times when nothing more can be done. When things look bleak and hopeless then we turn to Allah and put our trust in Him.
It is important to note that once you put your trust in Allah, you must also agree to accept His decision on the matter even if it is something you hate or would not like to happen. This is the test of putting our trust in Allah -- we must submit to His will. Thus, if we do not accept Allah's decision then it means we never really placed our trust in Him in the first place.
